What is ‘ego’? The word ego does not appear in the Bible, but concepts and principles regarding ego certainly do. Ego is considering ourselves as the standard for others to follow; believing that I am an important person and others must accept my words of wisdom; it is the pride about oneself; it is an excessive preoccupation with “self”.

An egoistic believer cannot make spiritual progress in his relationship with Christ. It is a spiritual cancer that affects not only our spiritual life but family and social relationships. Bible has only ONE solution to this problem “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others”. Philippians 2:3-4. The top quality of a servant leader is that he values others above himself. It means the absence of ‘ego’.
