We often get discouraged and disappointed in our daily life due to various reasons, sometime without any reason. It doesn’t matter what your circumstances are, the word of God doesn’t permit us to be discouraged. Our Lord has the answer to all our discouragements and disappointments.

We will never get discouraged when we do all things as unto the Lord. (1 Corinthians 10:31). The moment we do things to please men and for our own honour, we get discouraged. We should learn to extend our service to all as unto the Lord, whether in the church or out, do all things in His name. Jesus says “anyone who gives you a cup of water in MY NAME because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward”. Mathew 9:41.

Discouragements can be an opportunity to exhibit the love of Christ to others. Philippians 1:12-14. It depends on how we face the situations. Do we face them with courage from above by trusting in the Lord or do we depend on our own strength and ability to tackle the situation? Next time when you get discouraged examine whether I exhibit the love of Christ to others.

So, amid the conflict whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

The law and commandments reveals the nature of God and His will for His people. In the garden of Eden God gave Adam and Eve the freedom of choice with one condition or commandment that they should not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Eve decided to misuse the freedom of choice and disobeyed the commandment of the Almighty God. The serpent deceived Eve by taking her focus off from God to her personal gain (I want to be like God). Sins look good and pleasant to us, precisely because God has said it is wrong.

When we are tempted to rebel against God, we need to look at the commandment of the Lord from a wider perspective – in the light of God’s grace and mercy. If we focus on His great love for us, it will restrict us from actions and attitudes that harm our relationship with Him.  Commandments of the Lord are not burdensome rather it is an expression of our love for Him when we appreciate and obey them.

“He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me; and He who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and disclose Myself to Him” – John 14:21

Abraham – Father of faith began his journey of faith when he was chosen and called out of the land of Chaldeans. All through his life, his faith in God was tested in various ways. There were occasions he failed but corrected his mistakes and carried on the journey faithfully. God promised him a son and through him a great nation but had to wait until he became Ninety Nine. Even though there were doubts and challenges, he waited patiently by faith.

Abraham’s faith in the Lord was rooted and grounded in his strong love and obedience to Him. The biggest test in his life was when the Lord asked him to offer Isaac as a burnt offering. It is amazing that his love for the Lord surpassed all other relationships that he decided to offer his beloved son as a burnt offering in obedience to God’s commandment.

Abraham is a challenge to the new covenant Christians today. Let’s do an introspection whether our relationship with the Lord is growing in faith as our journey of faith in the world will soon come to an end.
