“Now this is what the LORD Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways.  You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.” Haggai 1:5 

Because the people of God had not given God the first place, their work was not fruitful and productive. Their material wealth did not satisfy them. While they concentrated on building and beautifying their own home and personal life, God’s blessing was withheld because they no longer put Him in the first place. The Lord warns you today “consider your ways”. 

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,

Our relationship with Jesus is evaluated based on what we are to Him, more than what we do for Him. Romans 2:23 says “you who boast in the law, through your breaking the law, do you dishonor God”. You may be a pious, humble, soft spoken believer, attending church meetings, always willing to give for the Lord etc. But God alone knows your private life. Do you dishonor God in your private life by harboring jealousy, selfishness, love of money, honor of man, worldliness, evil thoughts, anger, disobedient in your heart which another believer cannot see. 

When we focus on our Lord we will learn to look into our own life and see many areas that we have fallen short of His standards. Then we will be more concerned about what God think about us more than what others think about us.
